Revival Testimonies: Do It Again!

This article was commissioned by and written for Intercessors For America

Could there be a group of people more excited about the Asbury Revival than the faithful intercessors who have prayed for decades this would happen? Well, there just may be one distinct group who are even more excited: The intercessors who were part of the original 1970 Asbury Revival.

I was in chapel on Feb 3, 1970, and pretty much lived in Hughes [Chapel] for the next eight days of glory! As an intercessor, I knew we must shepherd this movement on our knees

Here at Intercessors for America, we have been deeply moved by the comments posted in response to the articles and videos we are publishing.  The testimonies of revival are flooding the website and our hearts like a tsunami of kingdom power:

I was also a student at Asbury when the 1970 revival started. I was one of the several students that prayed with Jeannine Brabon every morning before chapel in the basement of Hughes. . . . the revival started on my sister’s 19th birthday.–February 3, 1970. My parents and grandma all came from Florida to help celebrate my sister’s birthday. We didn’t do anything but stay in Hughes and worship together as a family. It was wonderful. We have never been the same since.

~ Linda McDonald, IFA Pray Commenter

Even more astounding, we are learning how these young Asbury revivalists quickly traveled to other colleges to share the testimony of what The Lord had done:

In Feb of 1970, I was an unsaved student at Seattle Pacific College in Seattle. A couple of students came from Asbury to speak in my dorm about what they had been experiencing at Asbury. I had to have the love they did for Jesus, so I immediately left my seat and went forward to receive Jesus.

For those whose lives were eternally transformed during the 1970 Asbury outpouring, how immensely rewarding to watch your children and grandchildren behold what you have testified about for all these years.

Behold the power of testimony!

The Hebrew word used in scripture for testimony can be translated as; do it again. One of the reasons the Bible urges believers to always proclaim what The Lord has done is; when heaven hears a testimony, it becomes an invitation for The Lord to do it again.

Further, the New Testament teaches:

Worship God, for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

~ Revelations 19:10

When we speak a testimony of what Jesus has done in the past, mysteriously the spirit of prophecy is engaged. Prophecy can transformationally impact a present circumstance through strengthening, encouragement, and comfort (I Cor. 14:3). But prophecy is also future predictive, which means the declaration of what The Lord has done can birth the same miracle to happen again in the future.

When our intercessors season their prayers with the testimonies of past revivals, brace yourself — Heaven is piqued and rushes to earth to spark new revivals.

The Jesus Freaks of the Jesus Movement are now our beloved elders serving in places of honor. But in 1970, they were the students and hippies being saved and filled with The Holy Spirit. Sounds precisely like what has been happening over these past nine days.

My born-again experience happened in 1978. Even though it was the tail end of the Jesus Movement, the waves of living water were still breaking over the levees. To this day, I’ve never experienced a community of people who loved Jesus so much.

I talked to one of my best friends yesterday who was part of that same church community in 1978. He said:

Every time I look at what’s happening in Asbury, I start to cry. It feels just like it did back in ’78.

I could not have said it better myself. All the commenters and converts from the 60s and 70s are sensing the same thing.

I was 30 years old in 1970 and was definitely impacted by that revival. I received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with my prayer language and have never been the same! I will be 80 in one month and have been praying for another outpouring of His Spirit ever since. I witness this KY Asbury is another time God is moving and plans to include the whole earth this time. SO EXCITED.

There is a scene from the movie Independence Day where the President learns his intelligence community had hidden a recovered alien spacecraft for over 40 years. Dr. Okun explains the ship was incapable of doing anything.  But, once the mothership came closer to earth, the spaceship’s systems all came to life:

See, we can't duplicate their type of power, so we've never been able to experiment. But since these guys started showing up, all the gizmos inside turned on. The last twenty-four hours have been really exciting!

How many decades have our intercessors felt that no matter how hard they prayed, the power of revival remained elusive. And churches that genuinely hoped for revival wondered why they couldn’t experience the power they knew was available.

No one can duplicate the power of God apart from the Spirit of God.

Today, right now, heaven has come closer to earth.  And as the currents of revival flow through the power grids of the kingdom in Kentucky and beyond, all those who have been crying out in sincere desperation are watching all the gizmos inside turn on again.

I was saved as a 17-year-old senior in high school in Lexington, KY during the 1970 Asbury revival. I am so excited to see the Holy Spirit moving so powerfully again on that campus and beyond. Come Holy Spirit!

~ Daniel Mingo, IFA Pray Commenter

Indeed!  Come Holy Spirit!  Do it again!

Please continue to share your testimonies below in the Comments section.  You are helping to fan the flames of revival!
