Defund Morality
A quick skim of the headlines these days is to understand our country is in an all-out sprint towards oblivion. This is not only a footrace away from who we are, but more tragically, a sudden rush in the opposite direction of who we were becoming.
It is as if our local, state, and national leaders, with a baton in hand and performance-enhancing drugs coursing through their veins, heard the Biden/Harris starting gun and have come out of the blocks with explosive power in a quest to be first across the line. The glaring problem with this race is; where exactly is the finish line? And worse, who is holding the tape and trophies out at this unseen, uncharted line?
Specifically, I am shocked to see the fast and wide, coordinated movement to no longer hold criminals responsible for their crime. Outlandishly, this nascent, anti-justice arms race purports that laws and law enforcement are the primary reasons people commit crimes. Defund the police, remove the laws and collectively close our eyes while crime is being committed and that's when the bad people will magically metamorphosis into good people.
Absurdly, the only ones to ever believe such a hoax are; the bad people.
Simple headline surfing reveals that crime in the major cities that bowed to the Defund Police movement are experiencing skyrocketing crime and violence. Crime in New York City is up 40% week to week over last year. Why? Governor Andrew “Big Hands” Cuomo signed a No Bail law that releases violent criminals back on the streets as soon as they are processed. Mayor Bill “Dinkins” DeBlasio goes along with it because he has always spurned honest Manhattanites while praising the rabble-rousers.
On the opposite coast, no less than ten San Francisco area Walgreens have recently closed. You may think it’s because the SARS-COV-2 shot has cured the herd to the extent medicines are no longer needed but, nay nay. Rather, under new California law, any theft of goods under $950.00 is now considered a misdemeanor and prosecutors have rallied to agree they will not waste time on such cases.
The videos are eerily entertaining as looters — ahem, customers — no longer have to brick their way through windows while running to hide their faces from cameras. Now they slowly walk in, greet the cashier, carefully select $949.99 worth of loot and audaciously saunter toward the door as some poor bloke holds it open for them.
First, think about how many hours you have to work to earn $949.99. Next, imagine how many items you would have to place in your miniature Walgreen’s cart, or carts, to reach that amount. Finally, with a wink to the security guard, you roll your winnings out of the store without parting with a single penny. As unimaginable as this may be on every level, the worst part is: These scoundrels don’t even return their carts to the corral.
When a nation plays pretend that its roots are exclusively evil and its founding formularies contain nothing but villainous intent, it then becomes quite easy to misunderstand basic, historic texts like:
“…there is no accounting for sin where there is no law”.
Saint Paul, The New Testament
Meaning, unless you have a Divine fact-checker explain Paul's Tweet, it may open the door for one whopper of an erroneous conclusion. A pernicious misread of this axiom indicates the real problem with sin is not nefarious, individual behavior. Instead, the fault lies with the systems of law put in place which unwittingly compel these otherwise fine citizens to become law-breaking ne’er-do-wells.
Remove the law and people will stop sinning believed no rational human ever.
Perhaps a Big Tech Disinformation Specialist would remind us of the preceding line in this verse:
“Sin was in the world long before the law was given…”
Saint Paul
If you caught the headlines of the vicious Atlanta Massage Spa shootings, many decried us to not use the term, prostitutes, in describing what takes place in many of these parlors. Instead, we are supposed to use the title, “Sex Workers.”
I wonder if those whose leg is clamped in the bear-trap of sex trafficking would agree? And, do these enslaved girls’ proud fathers boast of their daughter's tidied-up job title with their buddies on the first tee?
Exactly when did we dismiss the demonic schemings of the sex slave trade to now numbly call it, work?
Sadly, on cue, officials in the city of Baltimore heard the same starting gun and are rounding the first turn in the lead. Just this week, they triumphantly announced: Drug possession, public defecation and Prostitution will no longer be prosecuted as a crime.
If you hush and cup your ear, you can hear Pimps and Johns up and down the East coast rejoicing. I wonder what song the exploited girls sing as they read this headline?
This same Paul dared to care for a young girl who was oppressed by demons and enslaved and exploited by evil men for money, (Think spiritual pimps). As this poor girl relentlessly cried out for help,
“Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her”.
The Book of Acts
She was delivered, healed, and set free. So free, the evil men could no longer use her for profit. Now, this is surely a song worth singing! But leave it to a woke, rabidly feminist, female Anglican Archbishop to view this depth of soul care as mere misogyny;
“Paul was annoyed, perhaps for being put in his place, and he responds by depriving this girl of her gift of spiritual awareness. Paul can't abide something he won't see as beautiful or holy, so he tries to destroy it”.
Former U.S. Archbishop Katharine Jefferts Schori
According to Father Kathy, being possessed by demons is holy.
You see my point; we suddenly find ourselves living in a day where good is called evil, and evil is called good. To ignore evil is to propagate evil just as to ignore crime is to propagate crime. This is all sheer madness and far too many good people remain strangely silent — for now.
I have friends in the Philippines who were rescued out of the sex slave trade and now live wholly free, transformed lives today. If we could arrange for them to have high tea with Father Kathy, you would hear a boldness and clarity which is deafeningly absent from our public discourse today.
It is estimated that over 500,000 women are currently being trafficked in the Philippines with 20% of them under the age of 18.
Wipe Every Tear, (WET) is the most impactful, effective, and transformational organization I have ever had the honor of working with. While I’ve served in many countries in the name of missions around the world, this one changed my life forever.
The phenomenal WET team, which includes girls who have graduated from the program, works on the strip and in the bars to physically rescue girls out of the sex trade. But this rescue is not merely a change of address.
Astoundingly, these girls are placed in safe, loving homes where all their basic needs are cared for, including food, clothing, counseling, and even sponsorship if they have vulnerable, small children. High School and College degrees are offered, as well as job training, transition, and placement. This is all firmly planted within a loving, God-centered, faith-filled environment, and worth noting: This is all given to the girls entirely free.
One day in a meeting in Manila, Kenny, the Founder of WET, itemized this elaborately generous benefits package to a stunned local NGO director who, upon hearing this list of offerings snarked, “These girls are taking advantage of you”.
“Yes, yes they are”, Kenny beamingly responded. “That’s the whole point! We believe these girls are highly valued daughters and we want them to take full advantage of all the benefits of Heaven’s culture”.
So while the woke pundits and pastors hammer away that the purest example of an American Christian today can be found in the wreckage of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, clear the smokescreen and remember it has always been the Christians who forged the way to make life here on God’s good Earth immeasurably more blessed, especially for the vulnerable.
A simple reading of history shows it was the church that birthed societal blessings like modern science, higher education, tangible care for the poor and marginalized, and — led the quest to abolish slavery.
Please show me an example of a purely secular government on earth that has come close to doing the same?
So, despite the full-court press to silence faith, censor Christians, and bluff that our country was not founded upon Biblical principles, this latest flavor of the progressive movement is filled with insatiable rage because it inherently knows it can never accomplish its ultimate goal; the secularization of every human heart.
It’s slightly amusing and desperately dim to hear these humanistic, Anti-God, social justice warriors inexhaustibly bull-horn their manifestos at us. Barking accusations at the innocent, they do so very little of the hard work to tangibly help the truly marginalized. And this brings us to the molten core of this post-modern enigma.
Once you’ve laid God back in the grave and deny that a human being is created in the image of the Creator, precisely where do an individual’s intrinsic worth and value come from?
Recently, Author John Zmirak brilliantly made the case that if one adheres to Darwinian Materialism, then none of the culture wars being fought today have any basis, including abortion, racism, extremism, sex trafficking and the like. Why? Because if the Earth’s representative population are merely hard-fought, random beneficiaries of the survival of the fittest, from whence arises the consciousness to place value on or seek equality for any of these creatures?
By definition, pure survival of the fittest demands the very tenets progressivism pledges to eradicate; hierarchy, patriarchy, competition, meritocracy, and most obvious — inequity of any kind. Describe the equality of outcome when a cheetah viciously takes down a lagging wildebeest?
Without any reference to Christian ethics, the social justice doctrines disintegrate.
Perhaps our politicians and leaders are rigging a Hunger Games-ish arena? Defund the police, remove law and order, and then sit back to see who survives. If so, consider this: The evil-doers are currently devoid of restraint and are fast gaining notoriety utilizing juvenile, lusterless tactics while the righteous keenly watch, pray, and are mostly constrained by the fruit of self-control.
But, as the game-makers continue to load excessive and increasing levels of tension into the simulation, the righteous will reach the point where they can bear no more. And when this game board flips, and flip it will, it will be reminiscent of the prophetic crashings of Jesus heaving the money tables, spilling the dirty spoils, and scattering the evildoers into hiding. Thus making way, once again, for the pure in heart to proceed.
