One is Better than Two

I have quite firm, deeply thought through political positions which very well may differ from yours. But, my political positions don’t come close in defining who I am as a person in terms of identity, purpose and meaning. Nowadays, it seems purpose is derived from attacking people instead of debating ideas and therefore, walls of hostility are erected and tirelessly defended. Human identity is not defined by held ideas but rather, endowed worth. That said, when I see friends, particularly Christian friends, rip each other apart for politically held positions, I hear Jesus’ warning to “beware” the political system.

Why did He say that? Because He knows politics hold a strong propensity for corruption and building walls between one another. In contrast, when He taught what the Kingdom of God is like, the timeless attributes include unity, lavishness, expansion and eternal worth - things we all naturally desire yet are ultimately unattainable without God. I care and pray deeply for our country, the election process and our future so if you want to debate ideas and policy, I’m all in. But I firmly believe, “If a kingdom is divided against itself, it cannot stand”. ~Jesus
